What is Nasya?
The term Nasya comes from Sanskrit which means “through the nasal route” and that is why this Ayurvedic therapy involves the use of nose to cleanse the toxins from your body.
What are the types of Nasya?
Broadly, there are three types of Nasya treatment in Ayurveda which are further divided, but here only the major three types have been highlighted. These are:
Virechana Nasya Or Shodhana Nasya
Also known as cleansing Nasya, this is an Ayurvedic treatment that utilizes medicated oil or ghee with suitable herbs, honey, salt and even fermented infusion (Asava) to form a paste or a decoction mix.

Snehana Nasya Or Brihmana Nasya
Also known as Nutritional Nasya, this Ayurvedic Nasya therapy is quite nutritional as it involves the use of oil or meat juice with plant extract like camphor or gum.
This treatment is best suited for Vata predominant diseases, such as dryness of nose, uneasiness in getting up from slumber, migraine, worm head diseases, tremors of the eyes, frozen shoulder, etc.
Shamana Nasya
Also known as Sedative Nasya, this is an Ayurvedic Nasya therapy which utilizes milk, meat juice or even water in Pradhana Karma or main procedure of Nasya treatment that includes drops of liquid instillation or Sukhoshna aushadha into your both nostrils.
It is used to treat patients having Pitta-like premature wrinkles, hair loss, redness of the eyes, discolored patches on the skin and face, etc.
