Diseases
The thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland located in the front of the neck. It produces hormones (T3 and T4) that control your body’s metabolism — how your body uses energy.
When the thyroid gland doesn’t work properly, it causes thyroid disorders, which can affect energy levels, weight, mood, and overall health.
Hypothyroidism (Underactive Thyroid):
The thyroid makes too little hormone.
Symptoms: Fatigue, weight gain, hair loss, dry skin, depression, irregular periods.
Common in women and older adults.
Hyperthyroidism (Overactive Thyroid):
The thyroid produces too much hormone.
Symptoms: Anxiety, weight loss, fast heartbeat, sweating, tremors, irritability.
Goiter:
Swelling in the neck due to enlarged thyroid gland.
May occur due to iodine deficiency or hormone imbalance.
Thyroid Nodules or Cancer:
Lumps or growths in the thyroid, which may or may not be cancerous.
